September!

I love September. It means the summer is winding down. This is also a three-day weekend, plus the start of the college football season. Alabama plays Kent State on Saturday morning.

I haven't heard from the Fryes, Cody's adoptive family, since Monday evening when I called to check. Mica said that he'd behaved quite well but had also managed to escape a harness. Fortunately he didn't go anywhere. I need to email them and see how it's going.

My boss' mom passed away this morning. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer about 3-4 weeks ago. She's also diabetic and has other health problems, so I imagine that it wasn't just the cancer that caused her death in the end. They've been struggling to do dialysis since her kidneys failed a week or so ago, plus chemotherapy, plus everything else. The whole ovarian cancer thing brought this really close to home. I'm so grateful that Vieva Ellen has done so well, and at the very least has gotten three years after her diagnosis.

Next up: football on Saturday, I guess the funeral on Sunday (if I go), and beginning to get serious about preparations for the camping trip the third week. We'll leave on David's birthday and I have the whole week off, but it remains to be seen who else is coming and when. Russell is having difficulty getting his supervisor to agree to a vacation, which is typical for a shoestring type operation where there aren't enough employees to cover for each other. Rachel and Jeremy said they would come, but we haven't had any meaningful confirmation of that. Kerry is doing a play in Mobile (costumer) so she had to back out. In any case, David and I will be going along with Daisy and Honey, and we'll stay and camp no matter who else shows up. Temps should be highs in the low 80's-upper 70's by then, and lows in the 50's. Sounds delightful.
