Attention, World.

Note to all of you: it is NOT Christmas yet. It's just not. That will happen just as it should, but not until December 25. Not today, not this week, not next week.

So if you are sensing difficulty getting into the Christmas spirit, why not just give yourself permission to wait until it's actually Christmas? As a special bonus, today ONLY, you can give yourself an early start on Dec. 24, which happens to be Christmas Eve, but in the Jewish tradition of things will technically be Christmas Day beginning at sunset. Which is why we finally do, in the church, sing Christmas carols and all that on the evening of Dec. 24.

I'm serious. It's hard enough making yourself feel jolly and all that when you're broke, cannot shop for gifts, don't know what your life is going to be like by Christmas Day, are hurting and all that. So just skip it, and wait. That's what Advent is all about anyway, the waiting.

There is value in waiting for something, and if you wait long enough, Christmas WILL come. Then whatever you feel that day will be, for you, the Spirit of Christmas, because that's how it will be for you this year. Give yourself permission to receive instead of give.
